As an accredited two-year public college, Green River Community College has served the education and training needs of South King County residents for more than 36 years. Each quarter about 9,500 students attend Green River's 186-acre forested campus.

Green River's mission is to support its students as they transform their lives through education. GRCC is a comprehensive community college offering a strong academic transfer program that provides students with the first two years of a four-year degree, allowing them to transfer to colleges and universities around the country. Green River also meets the training needs of business and industry with over 40 professional, technical, and occupational programs including job retraining for unemployed and displaced workers. The college offers Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language classes at a variety of locations in South King County, providing English language skills to immigrants and refugees living in the area.

A campus center located on the Enumclaw plateau provides residents with a wide range of credit and non-credit classes. Green River also operates an Education & Training Center in downtown Kent that serves local business and industry. The ETC offers customized training in areas such as computer technology, fiber optics, Cisco certified programs, management, and other certificate programs. The ETC serves over 4,000 students each year by offering the latest training to meet the growing demand in the workplace for technology skills.
