The MTAG Work-based Learning System The Manufacturing
Technology Advisory Group is a partnership between education, government,
labor, community, and business for providing work-based learning opportunities
for high school/college students. The system has 3 phases: Basic Manufacturing;
Assessment; and Internships.

 |
MTAG business and education partners work together
to provide training in basic manufacturing skills. The teachers
instruct students in the MTAG
Core Competencies and other technical skills through applied
courses like Principles of Technology, Applied Mathematics, Applied
Economics, and others. The teachers also identify the types of
skills they would like business partners help teach the students.
The businesses assist the teachers with their needs by providing
a variety of work-based learning laboratory activities. For example,
businesses will conduct tours, sponsor workshops, provide project
ideas and/or resources, team-teach lessons and various other activities.
These activities usually occur during the students' 11th and 12
grades.
During this time, students will be assessed
on their knowledge, skills and abilities in basic manufacturing/engineering.
|
| At the end of the first semester, the Tech Prep Focals
will schedule an MTAG Performance Assessment for participating manufacturing/engineering
students. MTAG business partners will work with the community/ technical
college partners to establish the location and time for the assessment.
MTAG partners will also volunteer to facilitate and assess the students'
skills. After the assessment, a report will be provided to the students,
the schools, and the MTAG partners detailing the current skills
of the students. The data can be analyzed by each of the respective
groups to determine in what skills students still need additional
training and knowledge. |
 |
 |
Applications for internship opportunities will be
provided to the MTAG Tech Prep focals. Students that have completed
the MTAG Assessment process may be given preference for internship
opportunities at the participating businesses. For all participating
companies, the application process is the same; actual internships
at the companies will, however, vary in dates, duration and other
specifics based on what each company is able to provide. This will
allow students and businesses to coordinate the best internship
experiences for all participants. |
Since the MTAG System is new, many of the companies
are planning and designing their own internship activities. Please
check back on internship availabilty status.
