Assessments
A Capstone Assessment has been created as a quality audit for students who pursue the MTAG Certificate of Achievement. This assessment will be a three-part assessment.

Written, Performance, Portfolio
MTAG

Written Assessment
Throughout the 11th and 12th grades, students are taught the MTAG Core Competencies in their school environment and at participating MTAG partnering companies. They participate in business tours, training modules, and other workshops/events to enhance their learning of the manufacturing skills. During these workshops/events students will be assessed by their teachers and trainers. At various points in a students training, a capstone written assessment will be administered by teachers to allow a student to demonstrate their knowledge and application level skills in areas such as safety and the other MTAG core competency categories. Upon successful completion of the safety component of the assessment, students will receive a safety certificate. This will be required before the student can take the Performance Assessment.

Performance Assessment
The Performance Assessment will be a project-based activity; students have six hours to complete the project. The project assesses teaming skills, planning, and problem solving skills, as well as designated technical skills. This is not a "test"; it is an audit of a student's current manufacturing skills.

What is the purpose of the assessment?

  • Students will be able to do a gap analysis between their current skills and the skills they need for the manufacturing career area they are interested in pursuing. This will give them the ability to choose the right course of study and/or the job and career that may be the best choice for them.
  • A report will be generated for each school showing how well the schools students performed. The teachers will be able to analyze the skills the students learned and then compare it to what they taught. This will allow them to see the weaknesses and the strengths in their curriculum and/or methodology for teaching manufacturing skills.
  • The MTAG partners will review the same report received by educators. This will allow the business partners to help educators strengthen training in areas they see as weaknesses in student learning. Secondly, preference may be given to students who are assessed for interviews for internships at MTAG participating companies. The assessment will allow business representatives to place students in units where their skills can be of most use and where students can enhance and develop their skills and abilities.

Portfolio
During the students' participation in the MTAG Integrated Internship, students will create a portfolio that includes:

  • A letter of introduction
  • A resume
  • Project Write-ups (including pictures, graphics)
  • Tour write-ups
  • Transcripts
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Certificate/s of Completion/Achievement

Upon completion of the three stages of assessment, a student may use the information to demonstrate to an employer that s/he has specific manufacturing skills required for job placement. Companies may choose to give preference to students with this type of documentation for job interviews or job placement.
